Computer, Video Games and how much is too much
For ages the computer, also known as “PC”, which basically means personal computer was used to help people do different tasks easier. Such tasks include writing, editing and many others. Today, the computer is used by many people including young children, youths, and elderly.
Most still use the computer to get help but many others spend this time playing. This is also known as video gaming. Video games sometimes help “break “you from the day-to-day routine, which is in many cases a good thing. It is good because relaxes you and stimulates your nerves. For children, on the other hand, it is not the best thing to do, but it will not do any bad if taken not seriously. This means not getting addicted to it. Getting addicted basically means that the person playing sees nothing else except the game. This is a really bad thing since as a kid “breaks” you from the reality. Kids should socialize, make friends, and do well in school not care so much about what is happening in games.
Games are really addictive for some, where for others are not. They can become addictive where more than 3 hours a day played but that sure depends on the game itself. Games differ in “genre”. Genre is the type of game. Some examples of game genres are FPS (first-person shooter), Action, Adventure and so on. The most addictive type of games are the first-person shooters and the role-playing games. These games are addictive since it makes you discover things and level up. Some people may ask why and how games can become addictive. Well, let’s answer the ‘why’ first. They are addictive not because kids are not letting them down, but because they love them too much, because they are meant to be addictive. Game companies set goals before making a game. An important goal is to have re-play value, which means it can be played more than once and it will not get boring.
Now, the second question is ‘how’? Well, this is happening when you level up, and for example you search for quests and other things that take time. Some games also last forever and those are the most addictive ones. I would say that the maximum a child could play a day is about 2-3 hours. The most important thing is that whoever is playing should take initiative and stop playing, and not let others tell him when to stop. Also, after playing, he should remember that it was not the real world and the actually world is much different. There are no respawns for making mistakes and there is not a second chance.
Another question might be if the “players” are going to have problems socializing or not. I would say that games are not doing any bad here especially that most games these days rely on teamwork and co-operation and team players are supposed to talk and help each other in a game.
I know that many will ask me if I play so I will do myself a favour and answer right now that “Yes, I play, but I play wise” and I always look what my priorities are before playing a game.
My advice:” PLAY SMART! THINK SMART!”
